Newcastle United have been linked with a January bid for the centre-back.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are among the clubs interested in signing Dundee defender Jack Hendry next month, but the 22-year-old would be wise to ignore the Magpies' overtures and look for a team where he can play week in, week out.
Newcastle should be focusing on other areas of the field in January, with more attacking options both up front and in midfield vital if they are to turn their recent struggles behind.
As good as Hendry may be, Newcastle are already well stocked when it comes to centre-backs, with summer signing Florian Lejeune joining Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba at St. James' Park, and moving midway through the campaign could see any momentum the young defender has built up in Scotland quickly lost.
Hendry is a regular starter for Dundee this season and, if he does make a swift move elsewhere, he should be picking up a side where he can continue to develop, not potentially stagnate on the bench or in the second string.
Newcastle need new recruits in January but another defender is unlikely to change their fate, with manager Rafa Benitez needing to look further up field.
Hendry could well be on his way to the Premier League in the near future, but if he is he should opt for a side that can guarantee the minutes his talent deserves.
