Former Southampton forward Matt Paterson is attracting interest from a number of Football League clubs after impressing at Oxford City, HITC Sport understands.

Paterson joined National League South side Oxford City in the summer and he took his goal tally to 14 for the season with a hat-trick in the win over Truro City on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old has also caught the eye in Oxford's City FA Cup run this season, scoring the winner in the first round victory over League Two Colchester and also netting in the narrow 3-2 defeat to Notts County last weekend.

Paterson's rich vein of form at Marsh Lane has brought him to the attention of several League One and League Two clubs as they look to bolster their attacking options when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Scot began his professional career at Southampton after being in Bournemouth’s academy before picked up by Saints at an early age.

The striker scored twice for Southampton in 22 appearances and went on to sign for Southend and Burton before moving into non-league and he would jump at the chance of returning to the Football League if his suitors firm up their interest in his services.
