Tottenham Hotspur beat APOEL Nicosia 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Fernando Llorente of Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente has told the club's official website that it has been difficult for him this season, but he was delighted to finally score against APOEL.
Spurs were in Champions League action on Wednesday night, as they hosted Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia at Wembley Stadium in their final group game.
Llorente and Son Heung-min struck in the first half to give a much-changed Spurs side a 2-0 half-time lead, before Georges-Kevin Nkoudou's deflected strike sealed a 3-0.
Pochettino will be glad to have come out of the game unscathed, and he will be particularly ecstatic that striker Llorente finally found the new in a Tottenham shirt.
The Spanish striker hadn't managed to find the net in his first 16 appearances for Spurs since and August move from Swansea City, but he finally opened his account with a smart finish against APOEL Nicosia.
Llorente started slowly with Swansea last season, scoring just once in his first 10 games, before finishing the campaign with 15 goals, and Spurs will now hope that he can kick on similarly this term.
After the final whistle, Llorente told the club's official website that it was a 'very important' night for him, and he wants to keep giving his best and working hard moving forward.
Llorente admitted that it has been 'difficult' for him this season, and believes he has been unlucky this season, but he feels a lot better now he has scored.
“It’s a very important day for me. I needed it (the goal) for my confidence,” said Llorente. “I work very hard to give the best performance I can, always try to give my best and now I have to keep working in this way.”
“It’s been hard because in the last games in the Premier League I’ve had good chances. I’ve been a little unlucky. It’s been a difficult moment for me because I need to score for my confidence and I think this is the start, this is the moment I feel better and I want to work very hard to help my team,” he added.
