Leeds want Marvin Ducksch but should they rival Aston Villa for teammate Dominick Drexler?

Dominick Drexler has arguably been even more impressive than Marvin Ducksch for Holstein Kiel this season - but are they both on Leeds' radar?

Leeds United sent scouts to watch German second tier side Holstein Kiel recently with the express purpose of keeping a close eye on the prolific striker Marvin Ducksch, according to The Mail.

Ducksch, a former Borussia Dortmund striker on loan at the club from St Pauli, is the second highest goalscorer in the 2.Bundesliga this season with 10 strikes from 16 games.

But his team-mate has arguably outshone him, and everyone else for that matter, in the German second division this season. And Dominick Drexler has been rewarded for his superb form with exciting links of a move to England.

Leeds fans celebrate their team's victory during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Derby County at Elland Road on November 29, 2014 in Leeds, England.

According to Kicker, Aston Villa are among the sides who have been impressed by Drexler’s influential performances for Holstein Kiel in recent months. Now, Villa fans will point out that the club is hardly suffering from a dearth of options in central midfield.

Though Drexler’s tally of eight goals and four assists in 16 games across 2017/18 explains why Villa are reportedly keen on adding the former Bayer Leverkusen youngster to an already impressive squad.

Star of the show

But if Leeds have been impressed by Ducksch, surely his partner-in-crime has caught their eye too. A clever and creative attacking midfielder capable of scything apart defences with perfectly weighted passes or driving past opponents at will, Drexler is not all that dissimilar to his near namesake, the flighty German winger who wears the number 23 shirt at Paris Saint-Germain.

Just imagine how exciting Leeds’ attack would be, then, with Drexler working in tandem alongside Samu Saiz.

But if he has indeed piqued their interest on the recent scouting missions, Leeds will have to be quick of the mark with January coming up fast.
