According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers are after Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle in January, and the striker’s arrival at Molineux could be the deciding factor in Nuno’s side breaking the all time Championship points record.

Reading currently hold the record, after picking up 106 points over the 2005/06 campaign, and Wolves look set to trouble that.

Wolves have crushed almost all before them over the early part of the campaign, and Nuno’s side are already looking like near certainties for promotion.

Wolves are currently 10 points clear of third place, with every other team struggling to keep pace with the Midlands side.

But Wolves do not want to rest on their laurels, and they intend to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Newcastle forward Gayle is said to be on their radar, and if they did manage to bring in the 27-year-old, then the rest of the division would have to be fearful.

Gayle has scored against Manchester United and Chelsea this season, so there is no telling what he could do to Championship defences, with the creativity that Wolves possess behind him.

Wolves already have the best attacking line-up outside the Premier League, and Gayle’s arrival would surely make them unstoppable, as they push for a return to the top flight.
