Everton have made enquiries to Arsenal about the possibility of signing Theo Walcott in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

New manager Sam Allardyce is keen to add attacking reinforcements to his squad in the New Year and will be hoping that Walcott's lack of game time for the North London outfit this season will convince the club to sell and the player to leave.

The 28-year-old has played just ten matches in all competitions in 2017/18, with his only starts coming in weakened teams in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

It is Walcott's declining reputation in English football that might make many Toffees fans resist the idea of the forward moving to Goodison Park, but the England international might actually be exactly what they need.

Firstly, despite entering the latter phase of his career the attacker still possesses plenty of pace, something which the Merseysiders have desperately lacked this term.

Walcott offers width when operating in his usual role on the right flank, but the Englishman is also versatile and can also play as a striker - another position where Allardyce needs support.

In fact the former Southampton man's record of 107 goals in 393 appearances for the Gunners is a record that most number nines would be proud of, never mind a winger, further outlining why perhaps he could be a success in the blue half of Liverpool.
