Rangers will make a move for Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes in the next 24 hours, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that Rangers could have to pay as much as £1 million in compensation to Scottish Premiership rivals Aberdeen for McInnes.

The 46-year-old former Rangers midfielder has been the Gers’ top managerial target since the departure of Pedro Caixinha, according to the report.

The Scottish Sun has also claimed that Barry Ferguson could be part of McInnes’s management team at Rangers.

With McInnes and Tony Docherty reportedly set to be number one and number two respectively, Ferguson will be the number three at Ibrox, claims the report.

Ferguson played with McInnes at Rangers from 1995 until 2000 and is a club legend; he also has managerial experience, having been in charge of Clyde following a spell as caretaker-manager of Blackpool.

Interestingly, the 39-year-old former Scotland international was (reportedly) interviewed for a backroom role last March when Caixinha was in charge, but he was not given the role.

“Pedro Caixinha interviewed Fergie for a backroom role last March but opted for Jonatan Johansson,” states the report in The Scottish Sun. “Now he could land a dream Gers return.”
