West Brom fans have been heaping praise on Ahmed Hegazi on Twitter after the defender put in yet another impressive display to help the Baggies keep a clean sheet in their clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
There was definitely a sense of anticipation going into the clash at The Hawthorns with the contest being the first of the Alan Pardew era following his appointment as Tony Pulis' successor earlier in the week.
While the result was not exactly what the supporters would have wanted, as the two sides played out a goalless draw, there was some reason for encouragement for West Brom, with a number of players impressing.
One of the players who impressed the most was Hegazi. Although Palace will feel he should have given away a penalty, the Egyptian generally was outstanding defensively, seemingly winning everything that was there to be won.
The performance should provide the latest piece of evidence as to why Pardew cannot allow the centre-back to not be signed permanently. ESPN recently reported that Hegazi - who is on loan for the season with the Baggies - is attracting attention from some of their Premier League rivals, but West Brom also have agreed a clause as part of the loan deal that will allow them to make the transfer permanent.
And there is surely no doubt after his latest display that Pardew should be looking to prioritise a deal for Hegazi in January as it could prove to be a brilliant piece of business.
Here is the best of the reaction...
Plenty good individual performances today Sam Feild oozes what a quality young lad we have on our hands , Gibbs class act & Evans was terrific,Rondon-good but my mom @Hegazi defended superbly in the air /on the ground & hes distribution super to #wba— Jason Wheeler (@lebouf1976) December 2, 2017
Not great today but do you know what. It was enjoyable. #wba MOM Hegazi— Darren Baker (@WallHallNumber5) December 2, 2017
It was an entertaining game today big plus point is we never looked like settling for a point, Field and Hegazi looked great, and front THREE were linking well together. #wba— Richie Brown (@thepopmonkey) December 2, 2017
Thought we looked good today. Though Livermore would be hard pressed to cross a road let alone a ball. Kanu stealing a living as a Prem footballer. Sam field and Hegazi both class. #wba— Spencer George (@uber_foods) December 2, 2017
Really encouraging performance. Nice to c us take the game to the opposition n try to win it. On another day could hav won easily. Hegazi is class! #WBA— Ben Crowley (@BenCrowley1) December 2, 2017
Hegazi my MoM but thought Evans, Field and Yacob did well. Happy with how we set up. Had far more of the game today but ultimately lacked quality in final third. Get Chadli and Phillips in that team and we'll start picking up points. #WBA— Tony Harman (@BigTunna99) December 2, 2017
Hegazi was immense at the back today, Rondon looked like he actually enjoyed freedom to attack, Yacob superb as ever when he came on. Once the likes of Chadli, Phillips and Mozza return we’ll hurt teams. Need a better right back who can cross however #wba— Dan Nash (@DanNash86) December 2, 2017
