Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to slam Aiden McGeady after the winger's performance in their defeat to Reading which now leaves Chris Coleman's men second-bottom in the Championship and sees their long winless run at home continue.
A win against Burton last weekend suggested that the Black Cats may be about to turn a corner following the Welshman's appointment, but they were brought back down to earth in emphatic fashion on Saturday.
The Royals - who themselves have been languishing in the bottom half of the table all season - took advantage of Callum McManaman's sending off during stoppage-time at the end of the first-half to score three times within the first 26 minutes after the break to put the game to bed.
Lewis Grabban scored a penalty 14 minutes from time for the home side, but there was to be no fightback, which means that they could be five points off safety on Monday if Birmingham manage to stun league leaders Wolves.
Unsurprisingly, there were a number of players who came in for criticism from the fans on social media, and one of those was McGeady, who had begun the season as one of the players in good enough form to give Sunderland some hope.
The former Everton winger - who, according to the Irish Mirror, cost £250,000 in the summer - has not scored or provided an assist since mid-October, and played a crucial hand in Reading's first at the weekend as he gave the ball away cheaply.
His form and latest performance have left many supporters wanting McGeady to be left out of the side by Coleman, and perhaps even sold in January, as the Black Cats desperately try to get themselves out of their current situation.
Here is the best of the reaction...
This. Special mention to McGeady who seems to dodge criticism from most fans, despite the minimal effort he puts in. https://t.co/8eql7QjLXE— ChrisJones (@JonesSAFC) December 2, 2017
Mcgeady-2 He should be dropped and should have been dropped for this game. That 1st goal was completely his fault what a surprise he lost the ball. #safc— Jordan Ramsey (@RamseySAFC) December 2, 2017
Oviedo, Gibson, cattermole, mcgeady, grabban all stealing a wage today, welcome to the world of safc Chris Coleman.— Will (@TartanMackem) December 2, 2017
Might get pelters here, but I'd drop McGeady for the next game, when he's fustrated he's a very different player. Also gave the ball away for 1st Reading goal. He may have more of an impact on the game from the bench. Start Asoro.#safc— chris clark (@clarkysafc88) December 2, 2017
Doing ok, Mcmanaman gets sent off and it’s a uphill battle. Still doing ok until McGeady messes up going forward and they break to score. He’s been poor the last few weeks #SAFC— Scott (@76skelly) December 2, 2017
What has happened to McGeady? Started the season as our only bright spot, hasn't been effective in at least a month now. #safc— Patrick J. Gottlieb (@patrickgsport) December 2, 2017
