Everton have recently appointed Sam Allardyce as their new manager.

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has suggested to The Liverpool Echo that he cannot do anything about the perception of him that the fans have.

Allardyce has a reputation of playing long ball, safety-first football which ensures that struggling teams remain in the Premier League.

The Toffees, though, want to play good and attacking football and have lofty ambitions of breaking into the top four of the Premier League in the future.

Many Everton fans will wonder if Allardyce will play the kind of football that they want and aspire to.

The former Newcastle United and West Ham United manager has admitted that he can do nothing about how the fans perceive him.

Allardyce told The Liverpool Echo when asked if he needs to win over the fans at Everton: “Everyone has to win over fans. If you lose the fans criticise you, if you win the fans are okay with you. Whatever perception the fans have about me there’s nothing I can do about that.

“It’s been over many, many years now and it’s not true, of course, because we play a game of football to try and win it and with the players we have available my job is to try and allow the players to play to their best and play to their strengths and that has always been the case wherever I have been.”

Everton have been struggling this season and are fighting for survival in the Premier League at the moment.

However, the Merseyside outfit do have a very good team, and the fans should be optimistic about a successful season.

Allardyce did some wonderful things at Bolton Wanderers, and perhaps he could repeat those heroics at Everton.
