Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star a dilemma that Everton will face in the January transfer window.

The former Arsenal star has asked whether the players that the Merseyside outfit will bring in January will be Allardyce-type players or Everton-type players.

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Everton still need to buy big in January, but who does Sam bring in? Are they going to be Sam Allardyce-type players or Everton-type players?

“He took some great talent to Bolton when he had money to spend – players like Jay Jay Okocha and Youri Djorkaeff – and he will have big money to spend again.”

Allardyce has been handed an 18-month contract, meaning that Everton do think that he will be there next season as well.

True, the Englishman has a reputation of playing direct and effective football to keep teams up, his Bolton Wanderers team were brilliant to watch.

Everton have some wonderful players who should be competing for a top-10 finish in the Premier League this season.

Allardyce does have the players to play good football, and once Everton start climbing up the table, perhaps the Goodison Park faithful will see some good football that they all want.

It is important that Everton fans give Allardyce time and get behind the team irrespective of the playing style in the next few games.
