Newcastle United fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to urge manager Rafael Benitez to include Aleksandar Mitrovic in the starting lineup against Chelsea this weekend.
The Magpies will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.
Rafael Benitez’s side will head into the game against the Blues on the back of a 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion away from home at The Hawthorns in the league.
Mitrovic did not start the match against the Baggies, but the Serbia international came on as a substitute in place of fellow striker Joselu.
The 23-year-old striker has struggled for playing time so far this season and has yet to make a start in the Premier League, playing just 87 minutes of league football, according to WhoScored.
The Serbia international has been on the books of Newcastle since the summer of 2015 when he joined from Belgian club Anderlecht.
Never been Mitrovic's biggest fan but he deserves a chance after Joselu's recent 'performances'— Simon S (@supernova_1984) 30 November 2017
Joselu might play a whole lot better with... Mitrovic. He will have more freedom and he can link up. Old school 442. Merino Shelvey in the middle. #NUFC— LeuzOnPoint (Abdulaï) (@Asallsince1993) 29 November 2017
Funnily enough, I’m no Mitrovic fan but I would give him a run just to put an end to the debate one way or another.— Steve Wallwork (@stevewallwork) 29 November 2017
Like you, I’m bored with it now.
4-5-1 on Saturday for me:— Ryan (@iAmRyan1211) 29 November 2017
Yedlin, Clark, Lejenue, Mbemba
Ritchie, Hayden, Merino, Shelvey, Perez
Mitrovic & Aarons must start next game at Chelsea, drop Perez & Joselu and play Ritchie number 10, that way Murphy takes his place still #NUFC— . (@Tyler_S9) 29 November 2017
We looked more fluid once Aarons and Mitrovic got on the field. How and why are they not starting is beyond reason... start both pls— Sergio Alvarado (@Alvarados15) 29 November 2017
That's the thing, nobody is sure if Mitrovic will deliver. But we KNOW that Joselu won't. We've seen the evidence all season (bar the West Ham game where he was decent).— Rhys Melhuish (@RhysMelhuish22) 29 November 2017
Benitez hasn't been afraid to drop any other player in poor form, why won't he drop Joselu?
