Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that he doesn't think the release of a book about him and the club has contributed to poor results.
Spurs lost at Leicester City on Tuesday night, as goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez handed the Foxes a 2-0 lead before Harry Kane bagged a consolation.
That's now one point in the last three games for Spurs since the international break, and they have slipped a whopping 16 points adrift of Manchester City in pursuit of the Premier League title.
Many are confused as to why Spurs have suddenly dipped, given recent thrashings of Real Madrid and Liverpool, and some have come up with a bizarre theory about the recent struggles.
Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has published a book on Pochettino and Spurs called 'Brave New World', documenting Tottenham's development under the Argentinian.
Pochettino offered stories from his time with the club, including an honest account of how Kyle Walker left for Manchester City, and how he had to pull Eric Dier and Dele Alli aside to re-focus them.
Now, Pochettino has been asked whether he thinks the book has contributed to the recent results, to which he comically almost spat out his drink in shock.
Pochettino has told Football.London that he doesn't think the book is any sort of problem as he told the truth throughout, and believes the players are happy with what he has said in the book, rather than being affected it.
“Look when the book appears, different quotes about my book, we beat Real Madrid and Liverpool and we had unbelievable results,” said Pochettino. “First of all I want to say thank you to the people that write this story because it's more publicity for my book. We are going to help more people because all the money is going to charity. Thank you for this, in this period that is coming at Christmas, we can help more people if we sell more books. It's a risk when you lie. If you tell the truth why? It was a very honest book that was involved with the club for a very good thing. I think it's an amazing book because for you to read what happens throughout a season at a professional club it's a great opportunity to get a better idea that it's not only about playing football. When you are clear with everyone the problem doesn't exist. The problem is when you lie, no?”
“When you lie inside, you want to show that you are different. But for me I am here how I am inside and all that has appeared in this book the players know better than me. There is nothing to hide. And we won a lot of games when the book appeared. I'm more than happy if the book is the problem, it's easy - on the bench or out of the list. No because it is so clear that you have access to different information and there is nothing strange in the book. It is a lot of good information for everyone, many players are so happy. If you read to the end of the book many many players appear and maybe you will discover a good surprise there. My relationship with them is so strong, to make an excuse about the book is wrong. OK, I understand it is funny but for me it is not because I think it is a very good commentary to help many people with honest information that is never going to cause problems,” he added.
