If their title hopes were not already bleak enough, Tottenham have presented Manchester City with the chance to potentially move 16 points clear of Mauricio Pochettino's men when they take on Southampton on Wednesday, after Spurs lost 2-1 away at Leicester on Tuesday night.
With no win in the top flight since their first league game of the month, Pochettino would have known how crucial a positive result and performance at the King Power Stadium would have been - just to give the side hope regarding their already slim title chances.
But it was the Foxes who grabbed the spoils, with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez scoring in the first-half, before Harry Kane replied for the visitors with just over 10 minutes to go.
A number of players have received criticism from the Spurs fans on Twitter in the wake of the game, and the player who appears to have received something like the most criticism is Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen missed a glorious close-range chance late on and generally struggled to make an impact on the game, and Spurs fans fear that that has become an all-too common occurrence for the Dane in recent weeks.
Eriksen - who scored a hat-trick to inspire Denmark to the World Cup in the most recent international break - has not scored since the Champions League victory over Real Madrid at the start of the month, and, quite staggeringly, has not provided an assist in the league since the opening day of the season.
And it appears that a number of the supporters are convinced that it is now time for Pochettino to rest Eriksen after his latest performance. Here is the best of the reaction...
Embarrassing first half performance across the pitch in the first half cost us.. eriksen and alli non existent again— Sam Dawson (@SamDawson99) November 28, 2017
Sissoko, Eriksen, llorente, alli all atrocious Lamela was a breath of fresh air when he came on and looked impressive— Axelrod (@realbigyid) November 28, 2017
I mean if Eriksen & Dele had a bit of competition maybe they'd put a shift in every now and then. They're complacent, the manager will never drop them. Ever.— Sophhh (@soph_thfc) November 28, 2017
I can't believe Eriksen tonight is the same player I watched destroy Ireland, been a while since Dele has been anywhere near his best, hope we get out of this slump before it's too late. Europa league in that new stadium would be criminal— derrygareth (@derrygareth) November 28, 2017
Alli & eriksen need a big long rest— John Preston (@spursmadhead) November 28, 2017
Son did well when he came on too. Almost as if both he and Lamela should start over Eriksen and Dele who are playing dreadfully.— Hamid (@HamidTHFC) November 28, 2017
I love Eriksen but the top, top players don’t have a worldie then have 5/6 games where you don’t know there playing, he needs to improve his consistency— Steven Roberts (@steroberts_1985) November 28, 2017
Both players and the manager are to blame. Poch isn’t exempt from criticism, but good grief some of those chances we missed tonight were horrific. Eriksen and Llorente the poorest ones.— Spurs In The Blood (@SpursInTheBlood) November 28, 2017
Eriksen is one of the biggest frauds in football, drop him from now on— Glenn THFC (@GlennSpursFC) November 28, 2017
Apparently Eriksen can’t do it on a cold Tuesday night in Leicester— KerryCOYS (@ElectricEriksen) November 28, 2017
