Newcastle have lost four games in a row and need some fresh faces to re-energise their season.
After a decent start to the campaign, Newcastle United have hit a brick wall. They're currently on a run of four consecutive defeats and have slid from seventh to 14th.
Rafael Benitez didn't have the summer transfer window he wanted having been provided with limited funds. The Newcastle Chronicle report that regardless of whether the sale of the club goes through, there are plans in place for the January transfer window.
Here are three players who Newcastle should prioritise in January:
A left-back is reportedly top of Benitez's wishlist at St James' Park. Javier Manquillo has been playing there and he's been one of Newcastle's poorest performers. He also struggled at Sunderland last term.
Wayne Routledge of Swansea City and Luke Shaw of Manchester United battle for possession during the Carabao Cup Fourth Round match between Swansea City and Manchester United at Liberty...
Luke Shaw is desperate for game time having not featured in the league for Manchester United. Newcastle would be an attractive proposition for him given the manager and huge fan-base.
Jack Wilshere of Arsenal in action during the UEFA Europa League group H match between 1. FC Koeln and Arsenal FC at RheinEnergieStadion on November 23, 2017 in Cologne, Germany.
Jack Wilshere's days at Arsenal look to be numbered according to the Express. He's not started a single Premier League game and he's also out of contract in the summer.
He may leave on loan or permanently for a cut price, which would suit Newcastle. Should he join the Magpies, Benitez could offer him a number 10 role, as suggested by the Chronicle as being a position the Spaniard wants to strengthen, which could bring the best out of him.
Newcastle's strikers have been goal shy this season. Joselu has scored twice while Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle both just have one league goal to their names.
Villarreal's Congolese forward Cedric Bakambu (L) vies with Atletico Madrid's Argentinian forward Angel Correa during the Spanish league football match Club Atletico de Madrid vs...
Cedric Bakambu is currently the third highest scorer in La Liga with nine goals. Benitez is desperate for a finisher and Bakambu has hit double figures in each of the last three seasons. Newcastle were keen back in the summer but they also face competition from West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion for the striker according to Talk Sport, which could mean a transfer far and a big fee.
