The Whites will take on Barnsley away from home at Oakwell in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Anita, who joined Leeds in the summer transfer window after leaving Newcastle United at the end of last season, is a versatile and hugely experienced footballer who can play in a number of positions.
The 28-year-old Dutchman can feature as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder.
Leeds head coach Christiansen has suggested that Anita, who has been deployed as a left-back this season, will play in midfield against Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.
"He is in the squad and is an option,” Christiansen told LeedsLive when asked if Anita is a midfield option at Barnsley.
Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to comments from Christiansen about Anita - they seem to be pleased.
Below are some of the best comments:
Things need freshening up tomorrow. Start klich and Anita in the middle of the park. Play the lad borthwick Jackson in his natural left back position. And the real shock. Start grot up top, let him bully those Barnsley lads at the back #lufc— tim ellis (@timellis_82) November 24, 2017
Anita could be the answer indeed for tomorrow and the rest of the season, mmm no wouldn’t be happy but I do know where your coming from, catch 22 isn’t— LUFC NO1 (@RMcgoran) November 24, 2017
I would play him just in front of a back 3 with Sacko and Alioski on the wings and Saiz with O'Kane in centre— 25+75=15 (@weggy71) November 24, 2017
Anita in centre mid tomorrow ... Done very well for Newcastle. Give it a go. #lufc— Jordan Jones (@Jordan_P_Jones) November 24, 2017
I've been saying this for weeks— Richard Yates (@Rich4rdYates) November 24, 2017
Needs to start in his best position quality player— Ron (@ronaallleeds) November 24, 2017
Next game is the time to play Anita in midfield with Vieira out.— Royes (@SteffensenRoy) November 24, 2017
People forget that Anita played in 27 league games for the team that won the league last season, plus he played in 8 of our first 10 games when our defence looked solid. Gotta give him a start soon.— AWOL (@AWOLeeds) November 24, 2017
Played at highest level in that position out of everyone in our squad but still not been given a go. Like having Messi but only playing him cb.— jayjay82 (@jwh1982) November 24, 2017
I would like to see Anita play in defensive midfield. I don't think he's a natural left back. I think he'd have more to offer in midfield.— Ryan Hickman (@Ryanlufc1992) November 24, 2017
Leeds will head into the match against Barnsley on the back of a 4-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home in the Championship.
