Moyes took charge of his first match as West Ham boss last weekend, when the London side took on Watford at Vicarage Road.
There was a hope that Martinez would feature in that contest, but the Spanish forward was left on the substitutes’ bench.
And Moyes claims that West Ham simply have better options than Martinez available to them currently.
"The big thing for Martinez is that he got competition in front of him so we have people who can do that role,” Moyes said.
West Ham fans called loudly for Slaven Bilic to give Martinez a chance during his time at the helm at the London Stadium, but the youngster was constantly overlooked.
Martinez has scored prolifically for West Ham’s development squad ever since arriving at the club, but he still hasn’t been given the opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League.
From Moyes’ comments it seems unlikely that Martinez will feature this evening, when West Ham take on Leicester City at the London Stadium.
If the Hammers can pick up the three points they will move out of the relegation zone.
