Ben Wilmot's teammate has trialled with Tottenham Hotspur already this year

Could Tottenham Hotspur's links with Stevenage give them the upper hand over other suitors?

Stevenage defender Ben Wilmot is the latest name to be linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham and Liverpool 'head the hunt' for the 18-year-old, who is said to have been watched by 'around 30 scouts' at the weekend.

Wilmot, who has made only two EFL Trophy appearances for Stevenage, is not the only Boro player to have caught Spurs' eye this year - after fellow defender Ryan Johnson.

Johnson (below, left) spent a week training with the Londoners' development squad in April, a spell which, according to the London Evening Standard, both parties thought 'went well'.

Despite claims that Tottenham would continue to monitor Johnson's progress, the 21-year-old remained at Broadhall Way, but has since moved on loan to Boreham Wood.

It is perhaps no surprise, then, that Wilmot would emerge on Tottenham's radar, and it seems there is already some sort of link established between the Premier League side and Stevenage, whose first team employs three former Spurs Lodge products - Joe Martin, Ronnie Henry and Chris Day.

Whether that gives them the upper hand, however, will remain to be seen.
