Sunderland remain bottom of the Championship after a spirited 2-1 defeat away at Aston Villa.
Sunderland fans have been reacting on Twitter after watching George Honeyman's performance in their defeat to Aston Villa on Tuesday night - and while there is some praise for the midfielder, others have absolutely slammed the academy graduate.
The long-suffering Black Cats supporters received a major boost ahead of the game with the news that former Wales boss Chris Coleman had been appointed as Simon Grayson's successor at the Stadium of Light.
But unfortunately, Coleman's first game in charge did not bring a significant upturn in form as Sunderland lost 2-1 to the Villans - who, admittedly, are flying high in the table right now.
And amongst the Sunderland players to receive criticism was Honeyman. The 23-year-old has really emerged into the first-team this season, but has generally struggled, like many of his teammates, to make an impact.
The youngster showed plenty of energy throughout the game, but seemed to struggle to create any openings for his teammates.
And many of the supporters were not happy with what they saw from Honeyman, with some insisting that he is simply not good enough to play at Championship level and should not be in the team - though a couple of fans have also praised the midfielder's display.
Here is the best of the reaction...
Well Honeyman & Gooch just arent good enough or strong enough to play in the centre at this level... that was clear early on #Safc

Disappointing, never expected to get anything but think we were slightly unfortunate not to get a point. Hopefully have a few players bk for Saturday, when it really starts. From what i saw thought Honeyman looked decent and Asoro when he came on looked bright. #safc

I would do absolutely anything to never watch George Honeyman play football again

If Gooch and Honeyman are the future of the club then I think it's time for Sunderland AFC to just end

Gooch showed why he hasn’t been playing. Poor throughout, I hope he was injured and not just knackered after an hour!! Honeyman not much better, too many times just running forward when we were trying to keep the ball.

Another loss but I liked the team setup and substitutes Coleman made. Good performance second half. I feel we just need an attacking midfielder to create more chances, rather than Honeyman doing nowt all game other than sideways passes

I hoped Honeyman would make it, and he did look like he could at one point, but he cant. He offers nothing. Take him out, bring in Robson and Embleton.
