Davis and Onomah were selected to start for Villa last night, after impressive performances in Bruce’s side victory over Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.
However, Bruce admits that the youngsters failed to show their best yesterday evening.
Onomah actually scored during the contest, as Villa picked up a 2-1 victory over struggling Sunderland.
But Bruce admits that both Onomah and Davis were off the pace.
He said: “We have two young boys at the top of the pitch. The two of them were exceptionally good on Saturday, but we found that they struggled today. They found it difficult.”
Villa took the lead against Sunderland through a goal from Albert Adomah, who continued his brilliant form.
Onomah then hit the back of the net, as Villa looked to be on their way to a comfortable three points, before Sunderland mounted some sort of fightback.
Lewis Grabban did net for Chris Coleman’s men, but Villa held on for the victory, which has elevated them into fourth place in the Championship table.
