England fans have slated Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier’s performance against Brazil.

England held on to claim a credible 0-0 draw with Brazil at Wembley in a friendly last night, and Dier was given a key role in the contest.

The Spurs man was stationed just in front of England’s three-man defence, as he looked to provide a shield in front of the Three Lions’ backline.

Dier’s importance to England was highlighted by the fact that he has been handed the armband for his nation’s last two matches.

But England supporters have questioned what Dier brings to the team.

Dier has actually played in Tottenham’s defence more recently, but was given a defensive midfield role against Brazil tonight.

The Spurs man looks a certainty to go to the World Cup with England next year, fitness permitting, and he is likely to start in Gareth Southgate’s side’s first match in Russia.
