The Republic of Ireland’s hopes of World Cup football this summer came crashing around them in acrimonious fashion last night. The Irish were taken to the cleaners by an impressive Denmark side, eventually losing the game 5-1.

There was however no doubting which player was the star of the show - Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield maestro Christian Eriksen. The Dane has been in fine form for Spurs this season, a recent display against Real Madrid perhaps his best ever for the North London side.

Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur in action during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium on November 5, 2017 in London, England.

Last night he was pulling all the strings for Denmark in Dublin and scoring most the goals.Sandwiching a Cyrus Christie own goal and a Nicklas Bendtner penalty was a sublime Eriksen hat-trick. All three of his goals were devastatingly easy on the eye - be it his right-foot laser-guided curler, his left-foot placement or his punishing rocket of a third.

Whilst his hat-trick will undoubtedly leave Denmark fans and Spurs fans ecstatic, they are not alone.

One intrepid punter will also be jumping for joy at Eriksen’s hat-trick today. Using a £5 free bet on Sky Bet one lucky soul managed to win £1,000 off of the Tottenham star’s Aviva excellence.

Spurs fans will now be hoping he continues this form into the North London derby this weekend.
