Tottenham's Christian Eriksen was the star as Denmark destroyed the Republic of Ireland 5-1 to clinch a spot at Russia 2018.

Eriksen scored a spectacular hat-trick to dash Irish hopes of making their first World Cup since 2002.

The Dane's performance was outstanding, and if he performs like that in Russia next summer then his place among the world's greats will become confirmed.

He has done all he can do for now, and after the soon to be famous victory he posted an image onto Instagram from Denmark's dressing room, as he and his teammates celebrated.

Tottenham Hotspur teammatte Jan Vertonghen responded to his post, implying that Eriksen is simply 'on fire'.

He posted: "jvertonghen"

Vertonghen came through a friendly game for Belgium last night unscathed as they beat Japan 1-0.

The duo will now link up at the weekend for a huge Premier League fixture, when Spurs travel to Arsenal for the first North London derby of the season.
