Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Serbian centre-back but they do not need him.
According to a recent report from Football Arena, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Dusko Tosic from Besiktas for £7million in January, but this is surely one to be quickly dismissed and tossed into the transfer bin.
After all, Tottenham brought in two new defenders during the summer in the form of Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez, and the latter has already proved his worth with a string of outstanding performances.
While Foyth is younger and far less experienced, in time the Argentine is expected to play a significant role in North London, and signing a 32-year-old - even for a cut-price fee - makes no sense.
If Tottenham were crying out for another experienced defender, it could be deemed a bargain. However the club have arguably the best collection of centre-backs in England, with Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Eric Dier all starring under Mauricio Pochettino.
As long as Alderweireld and Vertonghen remain at the club, they can help bring the next generation through, with no need for another new face who could upset the apple cart rather than add more stability to an already impressive squad.
Carter-Vickers deserves his shot next season, while Sanchez should be one of the first names on the team sheet and Foyth is a more than able back-up for now.
Even for £7million, signing Tosic would hinder rather than help Tottenham's long-term progress, and that is something Pochettino clearly has no intention of doing given his decisions to date.
