According to a report in the Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is still in contact with Stevan Jovetic’s representatives.

Newcastle attempted to sign Jovetic from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window, but were unable to get a deal over the line.

However, Benitez is convinced that Jovetic would move to St. James’ Park, if the offer presented itself.

Newcastle didn’t have the money to buy the Macedonian international during the summer, as Mike Ashley wasn’t prepared to fund a deal, and the striker went to Monaco.

Jovetic’s move to Ligue 1 has not worked out as hoped so far, though, with the 30-year-old barely featuring for his new side.

Benitez has now remained in contact with Jovetic, and that could mean that a deal is possible in January.

Newcastle are expected to have money to spend, if Amanda Staveley’s takeover goes through as expected.

And Newcastle could be interested in attempting to move for Jovetic again, as their striking problems continue.
