Newcastle United had scouts looking at Cenk Tosun on Monday, while a number of their Premier League rivals have also been linked.

Besiktas' forward Cenk Tosun celebrates after scoring his second goal during the UEFA Champions League group stage football match between Monaco and Besiktas on October 17, 2017 in Monaco.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle have stepped up their pursuit of Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun as they sent scouts to watch the 26-year-old in action for Turkey on Monday night

Tosun has been excellent since the start of last season, having scored 25 goals in 43 league games for the Turkish outfit, and unsurprisingly, his form has attracted plenty of attention.

Turkey's forward Cenk Tosun celebrates after scoring a goal during the Fifa World Cup 2018 qualifying football match Turkey vs Finland on March 24, 2017 at Antalya arena stadium in Antalya.

The Mail reports that Newcastle, Tottenham, Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham have all been keen on the striker in recent times, and it appears that the Magpies are looking to steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

According to the Mail, Newcastle had scouts in attendance for Turkey's international friendly with Albania on Monday night, and they would have undoubtedly been impressed by what they saw - despite Tosun coming out on the losing side.

The forward provided the assist for both of Turkey's goals in the game, so it would be no surprise if the Newcastle scouts went away from the contest with fairly positive reports.

They will surely have to be extremely positive reports however, if Newcastle fans hope to see Tosun at St James' Park anytime soon, as the Mail reports that Besiktas want £18 million for their star striker before they let him leave, so Rafa Benitez may be looking for as full a picture regarding Tosun's attributes as possible before he considers sanctioning such a substantial move.
