Could Crystal Palace's James McArthur finally make Rangers dream come true?

Rangers fans arrive prior to the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round match between Rangers and Progres Niederkorn at the Ibrox Stadium on June 29, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Boyhood fan James McArthur admitted that he would love to pull on the famous Rangers shirt one day - and he's set to become a free-agent in the summer.

Could Rangers boast a central midfield partnership of boyhood fanatics in 2018? With James McArthur out of contract at the end of this season, it is a distinct possibility.

Rangers fought tooth and nail to sign Graham Dorrans from Norwich City in the summer, thereby making the Scotland international’s childhood dream come true.

And the Daily Record reported on Sunday that fellow Scotland star McArthur would be tempted by the prospect of returning north of the border in the New Year.

The Crystal Palace midfielder will be a free agent in the summer and can therefore sign a pre-contract agreement in January. And the report claims that the lifelong Gers fan would likely be tempted by the prospect of pulling on that famous blue shirt at last.

“I want to play at the highest level I can for as long as I can. At the same time one day I’d like to play for Rangers,” McArthur told The Sun in January 2016.

“That ever happening would be down to a lot of factors. For a start Rangers would need to want me.”

With the 32-cap 30-year-old set to be available for nothing in just a few months’ time, McArthur would clearly not burn a hole in Rangers’ pocket.

And if the former Hamilton youngster is given the opportunity to choose his own path, a move to Rangers would surely rank high on his bucket list as he enters the autumn days of his footballing career.
