Newcastle United signing Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw would be hugely exciting

Newcastle United could have an increased budget to spend in the January transfer window.

If Newcastle United could bring in Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw, as they have been linked with doing in the Daily Mirror, then the double-swoop would completely transform Rafael Benitez’s side.

Newcastle are expected to be taken over by Amanda Staveley in the near future, and that should provide Benitez with considerable funds to spend.

Newcastle are already eyeing up ambitious targets, with Everton’s Ross Barkley and Manchester United’s Luke Shaw said to be on their list of targets.

And if Newcastle can bring the England internationals to St. James’ Park it would be a real statement of intent.

Newcastle have generally looked for bargains since Benitez has taken charge, but Barkley’s and Shaw’s arrivals would announce a new era on Tyneside.

Not only would the pair improve Newcastle on the pitch, but they would surely make more players excited to move to St. James’ Park.

And if Newcastle could pull off the double-swoop, they would be two of the most exciting transfers that the Magpies have completed in years.
