Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on Real Sociedad star MIkel Oyarzabal.

According to Calcio Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal ahead of the January transfer window.

Oyarzabal, 20, has been a fixture of the Sociedad first team for the last two years, but he is really exploding right now, having enjoyed a remarkable start to the season.

The winger has hit six goals in just eight league games this season, and Oyarzabal's performances are now attracting major interest from other clubs in Europe.

Calcio Mercato report that whilst Juventus are keen, Tottenham Hotspur have now joined the race, with Mauricio Pochettino potentially keen to add another wide man.

With Juventus keen, Spurs face a transfer battle if they want to land Oyarzabal, but this is a great chance for Tottenham to flex their muscles and prove their position as a top European club.

The recent 3-1 win over Real Madrid showed just how Mauricio Pochettino's men can challenge the big boys on the pitch, and the race for Oyarzabal presents an opportunity to do it off the pitch too.

Whilst Oyarzabal would have to compete with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min, the left-footed wide man should see that young players are given regular playing time under Pochettino, and his record of developing young players is astonishing.

With fellow Spaniards Toni Jimenez and Jesus Perez on Pochettino's coaching staff, and Fernando Llorente in the playing squad, Oyarzabal may well see Spurs as a step up where he can settle and develop with a constantly-improving side, rather than heading straight to a Champions League giant like Juventus - and if Spurs can show their pulling power and beat Juventus to his signing, the young Spanish international could be a huge coup for Pochettino, given his record this season and his huge potential.
