Charlie Mulgrew has showered praise on the Celtic defender.
Blackburn Rovers and Scotland defender Charlie Mulgrew has showered praise on his national teammate Kieran Tierney.
The Celtic defender is a top class player, and is arguably one of the best young left-backs in Britain as well.
He is progressing rapidly under Brendan Rodgers, and has been receiving rave reviews from former players and football pundits.
Tierney is a natural left-back, but he plays in a different position for his country, mainly to accommodate the Liverpool defender, Andrew Robertson.
Till now, Tierney has been playing on the right hand side, but in the latest international friendly he played in the central defensive role.
The 20-year-old is so versatile that he made a terrific transition from left-back to centre-back for Scotland against Holland.
Mulgrew believes that Tierney has the potential, talent and temperament to make a full-time switch to central defence.
The Blackburn defender, who partnered with Tierney against Holland, has hailed the Celtic star as a “great player”, and says that he leads by examples.
“He’s top class and showed his quality again," said Mulgrew, as quoted by the Daily Record. You see his determination. He threw himself in to it. He is a great player and that he leads by example.
“He can be very happy with his performance. Can he stay in that position? I don’t see why not. He’s a top player and a great guy who is respected by all the boys. It does not matter what age he is.
“He has experience despite being young and it’s great to have him for Scotland. I know what it’s like to shift to centre-half from left-back.It’s a totally different picture of the game and a different department. It’s not easy but he makes it look easy. He has now played in a lot of different positions."
