Ray Wilkins slates West Ham United's Edimilson Fernandes for giving up

Ray Wilkins has slated West Ham United midfielder Edimilson Fernandes on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 10th November.

Fernandes was selected to start for West Ham’s latest match against Liverpool, which they lost 4-1.

And Fernandes’ lack of effort to get back when Liverpool scored their first goal has come in for fierce criticism from Wilkins.

He said: “Young man Fernandes was overtaken by Noble and Reid. You never jack it in, and he jacked it in. I find that very sad.”

Fernandes’ lack of desire rather summed up West Ham’s first half performance against Liverpool, when they were absolutely abject.

The Hammers did show more effort in the second period, but it was not enough - as Liverpool continued to score at will.

In the end, West Ham’s heavy defeat probed the final straw for Slaven Bilic, and he parted company with the London club soon after.

West Ham have now appointed David Moyes, and the Scottish boss has promised that any player who shows a lack of effort will not play for him.
