Would Everton landing Diego Simeone at some stage put them in driving seat for Kevin Gameiro?

Everton were linked with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro back in September.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror, Everton are keen on Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone as they consider potential replacements for former manager Ronald Koeman.

Of course, the chances of a deal for Simeone right now seem slim at best - but the fact that he is on their radar at this point certainly suggests that the Toffees are aspiring to be at a level where they can land the Argentinian at some stage in the future.

So could Everton pulling off what currently seems virtually impossible right now at some stage in the future boost their chances of landing a striker the club were linked with back in September.

The Daily Mirror reported back then that the Toffees wanted Kevin Gameiro, who had struggled for game-time with Atleti and is likely to be pushed further down the pecking order in January when Diego Costa becomes available following his move from Chelsea.

The Mirror reports that Atletico paid £35 million for Gameiro, so it is obvious that Simeone does see something in him even if he is not playing him regularly at the moment.

And with the Mirror adding that he could be available for £20 million, perhaps it would not be out of the question to suggest that Simeone would be as interested in the forward as the Toffees hierarchy appear to have been fairly recently - now all Everton have to do is pull off a managerial appointment that most are writing them off making.
