With several teams in and around the top half playing each other Liverpool can gain ground with a win at fragile West Ham, who know defeat will almost certainly leave them in the relegation zone.
The Hammers have endured a terrible start with just two wins from the opening 10 games and surrendered a 2-0 lead at Crystal Palace last time out to draw 2-2 in the 97th minute.
It is form which has led to intense speculation over the future of beleaguered manager Slaven Bilic.
And the under pressure Croatian has been hit with a raft of injuries and suspensions at the worst possible time.
Pablo Zabaleta is suspended and his back-up Sam Byram has torn a quad and is out for a month.
Bilic's fallback plan in that scenario is usually - against the player's wishes - Michail Antonio but he too will miss out with a recurrence of a rib injury.
Last season when faced with a similar predicament Bilic played Cheikhou Kouyate at right back.
But Jose Fonte is injured and there are doubts over key man Winston Reid too at centre back so Kouyate will be required to continue there. Bilic has also played Edimilson Fernandes as a right wing back and will more than likely go down that route again.
Meanwhile Bilic hinted in his press conference that Andy Carroll will be the key man for West Ham to hurt Liverpool and with Andre Ayew in top form that could see star name Javier Hernandez dropped to the bench.
Here's the predicted West Ham will line-up to face Liverpool.
