Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 by Burnley at Turf Moor last night.
Florian Lejeune is one of the few Newcastle United to escape from their match with Burnley with any credit.
Newcastle were beaten 1-0 by Burnley at Turf Moor last night, with the Magpies’ performance heavily criticised.
Newcastle were simply not good enough to pick up the three points on the night, and they rarely threatened during the contest.
The Magpies did, however, look fairly solid at the back and Lejeune’s excellent performance was a major reason behind that.
The French defender partnered Jamaal Lascelles in the heart of Newcastle’s backline, and he looked assured throughout.
Indeed, there was nothing that he could have done to keep out Burnley’s goal, after Ayoze Perez was disposed in a dangerous area.
The Clarets scored through a close-range finish from Jeff Hendrick to seal the three points.
And while many Newcastle players came under fire for their performances at Turf Moor, Lejeune earned nothing but praise.
Really like the look of the Lascelles + Lejeune combo- they scored off their only real chance- and it was a low percentage one #NUFC— will (@Ifollowallnufc) October 30, 2017
So uninspiring tonight, though skipper, Lejeune, Shelvey & Ritchie tried, the rest were non existent. Still, Burnley were set up well #nufc— Michael Phillips (@MikeLCPhillips) October 30, 2017
Have to say, Lascelles and Lejeune were absolutely solid, the latter again looks a real class act! #NUFC— NUFC Index (@NUFC_Index) October 30, 2017
Lejeune has had a good game. Can't say the same about any of our other players tonight. #NUFC— Bristol Magpie (@BristolMagpie) October 30, 2017
Lejeune & Lascelles the only players to emerge from tonight with any credit, for me. Manquillo, Diame, Perez, Joselu not good enough. #NUFC— David O'Neill (@DavieONeill) October 30, 2017
Thought Lejeune was so good, makes it look easy. Miss Mikel massively, or at least having that option from the bench. #NUFC— Daniel (@danjpeg) October 30, 2017
Not a good performance tonight, but on a positive note i thought Lejeune was brilliant. #NUFC— Elliot (@ElliotNufc) October 30, 2017
You and @lejeune_florian played very well tonight. We just had nothing going forward. Onto saturday— Jay (@NUFC_JAY17) October 30, 2017
Tonights thoughts - Perez should never start. Mitro needs to be given a chance. Lejeune is class. Diame is even worse than Sissoko. #nufc— JD (@JordanDempsey91) October 31, 2017
