Southampton striker Sam Gallagher is considering cutting his Birmingham City loan spell short, according to reports.

The 22-year-old has certainly not had the best time at St Andrew’s, scoring just once in his first nine appearances for the Championship outfit, who currently find themselves one place and just two points above the bottom three in the division.

Gallagher would have surely been hoping to build on his promising year with Blackburn last term – despite their relegation, his form was impressive as he scored 11 times – and send a message to his parent club.

The Saints have struggled for goals this term – though, admittedly, not as badly as last term it seems – and he may have been thinking that a brilliant spell in the second tier would put him right in Mauricio Pellegrino’s thoughts.
However, it now appears that there is the slightest chance that he may be looking to potentially try and prove himself elsewhere.
