Everton confirmed on Monday afternoon that manager Ronald Koeman has been relieved of his duties after a dreadful start to the season.

The Toffees went into the season full of hope and optimism, having splashed the cash over the summer on players such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, whilst they also brought Wayne Rooney back to the club.

However, with five defeats in the first nine Premier League games, and just one point taken from three Europa League outings, Everton have endured a disastrous start to the campaign.

Sunday's dreadful 5-2 home defeat at the hands of Arsenal proved to be Koeman's final game in charge of Everton, as the Toffees have decided to part ways with the Dutchman after less than 18 months in charge.

David Unsworth, coach of Everton looks on during the Checkatrade Trophy group match between Bolton Wanderers and Everton under-23s at Macron Stadium on August 30, 2016 in Bolton, England.

Bookmakers have already started pricing up odds for who could replace Koeman, and here are some of the main names in the frame this evening, as provided by Sky Bet.

David Unsworth: 2/1

Currently serving as Everton's caretaker manager, Unsworth has been working as the club's Under-23 coach, helping nurture some of the club's top young players. Unsworth will be given a chance to shine when Everton take on Leicester City this weekend, and whilst it's only day one of his stint as caretaker, he is already down to 2/1 with bookmakers, making him the new favourite to win the job permanently.

Thomas Tuchel: 3/1

20/1 yesterday and now down to just 3/1, German boss Tuchel is now the second favourite to claim the Everton job. The 44-year-old left his position as Borussia Dortmund boss at the end of last season and remains out of work, despite boasting a win rate of almost 62% during his time at Signal Iduna Park. Arguably the most exciting available manager in Europe, Tuchel would be a huge coup for Everton.

David Moyes: 11/1

Linked with a return to Goodison Park over the weekend, Scot Moyes managed Everton for 11 years following a 2002 move from Preston North End, before leaving for Manchester United in 2013. Moyes has endured next to no success since leaving Everton, as he lasted just eight months at Manchester, was sacked by Real Sociedad after just a year in the job and suffered relegation with Sunderland last season. Yet, having won 42% of his games in his first stint with Everton, he is just 11/1 for a return.

Marco Silva: 14/1

Watford boss Silva is the choice of many Everton fans, though prising him away from the Hornets could be difficult given that he only made his move to Vicarage Road over the summer. The Portuguese boss impressed with Hull last season despite their relegation to the Championship, and he has turned Watford into one of the Premier League's most impressive teams so far this term. At 14/1, Silva is still something of an outsider for the Everton job, but he isn't short of fans at Goodison Park.

Louis van Gaal: 25/1

In a move which would stun many, ex-Manchester United boss Van Gaal is just 25/1 for the Everton job, emerging as something of a dark horse. The Dutchman - who had a well-publicised feud with compatriot Koeman - has been out of management since losing his job with Manchester United in 2016. Van Gaal may want one last crack at Premier League management, but it should still be a huge surprise to see him land the Everton job.
