Pundit says Tottenham can only win the league if Manchester City slip up.

BT Sport pundit Ian Wright looks on prior to the Emirates FA Cup Semi-Final match between Arsenal and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on April 23, 2017 in London, England.

Ian Wright has told BBC 5 Live that Tottenham Hotspur need Manchester City to slip up if they are to win the Premier League.

Speaking to BBC 5 Live’s Monday Night Club (23/10), Wright was complimentary about Tottenham but fears they may finish short once again.

He said: “City are too good, home and away. Spurs can get amongst them, but City will have to drop points and fall off.”

Manchester City currently look invincible, and are unbeaten in the Premier League this season.

But last year they began well too, and after defeat against Tottenham, their form began to waver.

Pep Guardiola’s side will face tough challenges this season, and a year wiser, the lauded manager will have to show his team can respond well to set backs.

Tottenham are currently five points behind City, but have a chance to establish themselves as their top competitors this year when they travel to Manchester United on Saturday.

Former Arsenal star Wright made clear he is an admirer of Mauricio Pochettino’s team’s recent form, but suspects City will ultimately prove too strong and too consistent this season.

Wright added that he believes Tottenham need to win another trophy to stoke their belief. He said: “If they can win the FA Cup, and get backing (from the board), they will be a serious proposition for everyone.”
