Back playing under Roy Hodgson, his former England manager, and at St James' Park - where he previously starred for Newcastle United - it was no surprise to see Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend in fine form on Saturday.
There have been times since the Three Lions winger joined Palace when it has not looked like a successful move, but that was not so in front of the watching Gareth Southgate at the weekend.
Rafa Benitez has been consistently linked with a move to bring Townsend back to Newcastle since he departed last year - the Express are the latest to report a £30 million move - and he would no doubt have been impressed by this display at his old stomping ground.
But Palace will surely not entertain any bids for their man if he continues to perform in such a fashion.
Hodgson inspired fine performances from Townsend in an England shirt when he first burst onto the scene in the Premier League and it is encouraging for the Eagles that he has instantly rediscovered his form under the ex-Liverpool boss.
Palace are still suffering for the lack of a centre forward - with Wilfried Zaha less impactful than against Chelsea - but Townsend could not be criticised for his role.
He ran at the Newcastle back line and enjoyed an ongoing battle with Florian Lejeune, creating Palace's best chance for Zaha to head wide.
If Townsend can keep up these displays when Christian Benteke returns to form and fitness, Hodgson could be onto a winner.
