Manchester United suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season on Saturday afternoon, losing 2-0 away at Huddersfield Town in a shock defeat.

The Red Devils had avoided defeat in their first eight games of the season, but their trip to the John Smith's Stadium ended in disaster, with Aaron Mooy and Laurent Depoitre getting themselves on the scoresheet.

United were certainly damaged by the injury to centre back Phil Jones, and his replacement Victor Lindelof endured another nightmare performance as he continues to struggle since his summer move from Benfica.

The Swede completely fluffed his lines for the second goal, failing to make contact with an attempted header, which allowed Depoitre through to score after rounding goalkeeper David De Gea.

Whilst Lindelof was mostly a project player signed for the future, manager Jose Mourinho must be alarmed by just how poor the 23-year-old was against Huddersfield and in previous games too.

Lindelof is already being hounded by Manchester United fans, and many took to Twitter to fume over the club's decision to sign him instead of pursuing the signature of now-Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez.

Both centre backs moved over the summer for similar fees, but whilst Lindelof is struggling for United, Colombian star Sanchez has impressed for Spurs, helping shackle the Real Madrid attack in midweek whilst slotting in effortlessly alongside Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

United fans have suggested that the club have made a huge mistake signing Lindelof over Sanchez, suggesting he will never be as good as the 'outstanding' Spurs ace – and unsurprisingly, Tottenham fans also took to Twitter on Saturday to celebrate their signature of Sanchez, taking great joy in the fact that they cost a similar amount of money for very differing impacts.
