"I'm not sure I'll get a good reception but I had a fantastic time there,” Townsend told The Belfast Telegraph.

"Unfortunately it didn't end well but I thoroughly enjoyed my time there with the fans and I'm looking forward to going there and see a few familiar faces. I'll enjoy it.”

Townsend is a good winger and did relatively well for Newcastle during the short spell he was at St. James’ Park.

However, one could understand his decision to leave the Magpies at the time. Newcastle had just been relegated, and it is not very tempting to play in the Championship even for a season.
