Leeds feel that Malone could nail down the left-back spot in Thomas Christiansen’s first-team, which has become a bit of a problem position.
Leeds have plenty of options to play on the left hand side of their defence, but no player has fully established himself in the position.
Gaetano Berardi, Vurnon Anita and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have all been utilised in the left-back spot so far this season, but none of the trio have been in sparkling form.
It means that Malone may come in - and that could leave question marks over what comes next for Vurnon Anita already.
Anita joined Leeds last summer, but he has already slipped out of Christiansen’s first-team plans.
The Dutchman has not featured in either of Leeds’ last two matches, and Malone’s arrival would make his chances of breaking back into Christiansen’s team even more limited.
Anita does, of course, have an impressive amount of versatility - but he has only been used at left-back by Leeds so far.
And if Malone does arrive at Elland Road, it may be a sign that Christiansen has not been too impressed by Anita’s displays during his time with the Whites to date.
