Speaking to Radio Yorkshire, Neil Redfearn has thrown his weight behind Leeds United's reported pursuit of Scott Malone.

Clubcall reported this week that Leeds were interested in signing the Huddersfield Town left-back on loan when the January transfer window opens.

Gaetano Berardi and summer signing Vurnon Anita have been sharing the left-back role this season following Charlie Taylor's move to Burnley in July.

Berardi is naturally a right-back, while former Newcastle United man Anita played a number of different roles during his time at St James's Park.

And Redfearn believes that a move for the 26-year-old defender would add "natural balance" to the Whites as they chase Premier League promotion.

Asked on Radio Yorkshire whether a move for Malone made sense, the ex-Leeds boss said: "Yes, as it would give you natural balance and that’s what Leeds are lacking at left-back."

Thomas Christiansen manager of Leeds United looks on before the Carabao Cup Third Round match between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor on September 19, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Malone joined United's Yorkshire rivals in the summer but is yet to start a Premier League game for David Wagner's side.

The Whites are back in action on Saturday as Christiansen's side host Reading with the hope of bouncing back from a tough run of form which includes three defeats in four games.
