Leeds United sold Chris Wood to Burnley in the summer transfer window.

Chris Wood of Burnley scores his sides first goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley at Wembley Stadium on August 27, 2017 in London, England.

Oldham Athletic caretaker-manager Richie Wellens suggested on the EFL Matters show on Sky Sports Football on Thursday evening (broadcast from 7pm, October 12, 2017) that Leeds United will miss Chris Wood.

Wood joined Premier League club Burnley from Championship side Leeds in the summer transfer window.

According to BBC Sport, the Clarets had to pay the West Yorkshire outfit a transfer fee of £15 million in order to secure the services of the New Zealand international striker.

The 25-year-old striker was one of the best players for Leeds last season, as he scored as many as 27 goals in the Championship.

Oldham caretaker-manager Wellens, 37, believes that the Whites will miss Wood.

“I have not watched them in the away games, but Chris Wood is going to be a huge loss,” said Wellens on the EFL Matters show on Sky Sports Football on Thursday evening (broadcast from 7pm, October 12, 2017).

“The initial reaction might have good, but long term you are thinking as a midfield player, as a defender, ‘Who’s going to get our goals?’”

Wood was one of the best players in the Championship last season and is playing well in the Premier League for Burnley at the moment.

Leeds signed Pierre-Michel Lasogga on a season-long loan deal from Hamburg in the summer transfer window.

Lasogga is supposed to be a replacement for Wood at Elland Road, and the 25-year-old striker has already scored three goals and provided two assists in five Championship appearances so far this season.
