Diame is struggling for playing time at Newcastle at the moment, with Perez having established himself in the number 10 role in the Premier League under manager Rafael Benitez at the moment.
“He’s playing very well,” Diame told The Shields Gazette about Perez.
Diame is a good midfielder and is hugely experienced, and the 30-year-old former Senegal international will be an important player for Newcastle as the season progresses.
Perez is a very good player, but the 24-year-old, who can operate as a forward or an attacking midfielder, is not exactly an outstanding footballer.
The former Spain Under-21 international is not always going to play well, and it is up to Diame to displaced him from the team once he gets his chance.
If the former West Ham United midfielder trains well and makes an impact if when he comes on as a substitute, then he could play into Benitez’s plans for a regular place in the starting lineup.
According to The Sun, Newcastle paid Hull a transfer fee of £4.5 million in the summer of 2016 in order to secure the services of Diame.
