Cenk Tosun's outstanding record means struggling reported suitors Crystal Palace must pay up

Roy Hodgson looks on during a Melbourne City A-League training session at City Football Academy on April 19, 2017 in Melbourne, Australia.

Crystal Palace need to start scoring goals if they are to have any chance of staying up this season - and Cenk Tosun is a proven marksman.

Crystal Palace hold an interest in Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun, according to the Daily Mail.

Their report claims Roy Hodgson's side will rival fellow Premier League sides - notably Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur - for the £17.5million signing of the Turkey international.

Splashing out big money on strikers who have never delivered in Europe's top five leagues is often seen as a risk, but Palace can hardly afford not to go all out for a player like Tosun.

After seven games of the league season, the London club are bottom of the table without a point or a goal.

Already five points adrift, without star striker Christian Benteke and facing Chelsea next, Palace need a lift.

Of course, they cannot afford to wait until January to see an upturn in form but, as long as Hodgson can keep his side in with a chance up to that point, Tosun's signing could then prove a turning point.

Palace's main issue is the lack of goals and that is exactly what Tosun guarantees - he has an astounding record for Besiktas.

Tosun has scored a goal every 125 minutes in the Super Lig - 35 strikes in total - since joining the Turkish giants, while that rate improves to a goal every 121 minutes in all competitions.

For Turkey in World Cup qualifying, the 26-year-old netted five times in just seven starts.

Tosun has been playing at a level inferior to the Premier League, but - given the chances, and Palace have passed up plenty - he is a proven goalscorer.
