The USA's passion for soccer has been building over the past few years, but it could be severely dented by the national team's failure to qualify for Russia 2018.

It was a brutal reality check for the US as they lost a decisive qualifier to Trinidad and Tobago.

Yedlin made his name at the 2014 World Cup, and without the tournament may not have caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur, who fast-tracked him a transfer to Europe.

While he could not break into the Spurs team, he has gone onto establish himself in England thanks to a loan spell at Sunderland before joining Newcastle United last summer, for who he is now starring in the Premier League.
