Should Leeds United have moved for Everton's Luke Garbutt in the summer?

Everton coach David Unsworth has suggested to the Toffees’ official website that Luke Garbutt was very disappointed not to get a move away from Goodison Park last summer.

Garbutt was hoping to leave Everton on loan, but no switch materialised and he has now been consigned to a role in the reserves.

And there now has to be a question over whether Leeds United would have been better off moving for Garbutt, rather than Manchester United’s Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

Leeds signed Borthwick-Jackson from United to add depth to their options at left-back, but he has barely featured so far.

Garbutt, meanwhile, has been in brilliant form for Everton’s under-23 side - and Unsworth has suggested that the 24-year-old is getting back to his best.

Garbutt was once considered to be one of Everton’s best prospects, but he has stagnated in recent times, after a series of failed loan spells.

A move to Leeds would surely have appealed to the England youth international, as he knows the club well.

Garbutt developed in Leeds’ youth academy, before moving to Everton, and a move back to Elland Road could have been perfect for the defender, who appears to be getting his career back on track now.
