Just days after being linked to Aston Villa, Cologne striker Jhon Cordoba has picked up a knee injury.

German website Expressen report the Colombian forward has suffered an injury which will keep him sidelined for several weeks, with it forecast he will miss the next 10 games.

Cordoba moved to Cologne from Mainz this summer for £13 million and had enjoyed a mixed start to the season.

Cologne's Colombian forward Jhon Cordoba reacts during the German First division Bundesliga football match FC Cologne v RB Leipzig in Cologne, western Germany, on October 1, 2017.

He had scored just twice, but one of these was a spectacular long range strike against Arsenal in the Europa League.

The Sun reported just three days ago that Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is eyeing a January swoop for the forward.

While Cordoba should return to fitness before January, this could well affect Villa's scouting plans for the next few weeks and see them concentrate their efforts towards other targets.

Cologne will get a taste of what it is like without Cordoba in the meantime, and is results go well, they could well be tempted by a transfer offer from Villa in January if the Championship side still deem him a priority.
