Everton's failure to sign a striker in the transfer window continues to haunt them - but there may be a new slither of hope.

One player the Toffees were eyeing was Feyenoord forward Nicolai Jorgensen, who struck 22 goals in 33 games for the Dutch club last season.

Football Oranje reported their interest in the Danish striker in June, but like so many other targets they did not push ahead with a move.

Robin van Persie could now hold the key to their interest.

Turkish newspaper Aksam report Van Persie is considering a move back to Feyenoord as he prepares to leave Fenerbahce.

Van Persie would be returning expecting to play, and he would be able to fill the void left behind by Jorgensen.

It makes it far easier for the reigning Dutch champions to cash in on Jorgensen to Everton while placating their fans, by bringing back Van Persie for the first time since he left the club in 2004.
