John McGinn certainly seems to be a rising star in Scottish football and the 22-year-old consolidated that status on Saturday.
The Hibernian midfielder scored twice as Neil Lennon's side came away from Celtic Park with a 2-2 draw - and would have been a victory which ended Celtic's 58-match unbeaten run had Callum McGregor not bagged an 80th-minute equaliser.
Not many players in Scotland have stolen the show against the Hoops, who won all three domestic honours last season without losing a game, but McGinn certainly made quite a big impression on what just might've been his audition at Parkhead.
In July, Hibs boss Lennon slapped a £5 million price-tag on the star but Celtic have the pull and the money to get him if Brendan Rodgers likes what he saw.
And quite a lot of Bhoys on Twitter have implored the Northern Irishman to make a move for McGinn in the January transfer window.
V interesting stuff. People talking him up as a long-term replacement for Broony but would more likely be a shorter term Armstrong.— tombhoy73 (@tombhoy73) October 4, 2017
McGinn ran over the top of us yesterday. He's 21, and a full internationalist. He's be a good, promising signing.— Riz (@Riz_67) October 1, 2017
He didn’t do himself any harm today— john currie (@mimipele) September 30, 2017
He was twice the player ntcham was.— henrik67 (@BhoyClarkey) October 1, 2017
Nobody is suggesting we sign him after one game..The fella is rated at 5 million by Neil Lennon and done well with SM...Hibs and Scotland.— Steven (@stemac26) October 1, 2017
MCGinn was excellent, Celtic understandably not at their best, not just the S.Brown factor. Collum reflects SFA recruitment. Closed shop.— Big Fraz (@bigfra50) September 30, 2017
Time for Celtic to sign up John McGinn in January window. Missing Brown hugely.— Andy Muirhead (@andymuirhd) September 30, 2017
John McGinn's performance was the best away domestic midfield display I've seen at Celtic Park for many years. Well played— Stephen McLaughlin (@BhoyPapa) September 30, 2017
Christie? mmmm Allan? meh - McGinn? the real deal. Snap him up Celtic— Eeramacaroonbar (@Eeramacaroonbar) September 30, 2017
Rodgers already has a deluge of central-midfield options, including Scott Brown - who missed the draw with Hibs - Olivier Ntcham, Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, Nir Bitton and Stuart Armstrong, though not all of them operate in the same role as McGinn.
Traditionally he is a box-to-box figure who might well be seen by the Celtic boss to be a long-term replacement for 32-year-old Brown, though time will tell.
